Freezone Administration

The Freezone Act No. 10 of 1999 came into effect on May 22, 2000. The Act provides for the establishment and operation of Freezones in St. Lucia "to foster commerce, trade and investment with other countries; to promote economic growth and development and related matters." It repealed the Customs Freezone Act No. 18 of 1983. The Freezone Management Authority (FZMA):

operates under the Ministry of Commerce
manages the St. Lucia Freezone
regulates entry and exit of persons to and from the Freezone
grants and regulates licences
provides security at the Freezone
leases office space and buildings to Freezone businesses
constructs facilities and develops infrastructure within the Freezone
maintains landscape and common area within the Freezone
markets and promotes the Freezone
provides insurance coverage for all properties and facilities
Customs Administration

The Customs & Excise Dept. oversees all customs related activities for goods entering and departing the Freezone. A well-manned office is located within the Freezone to facilitate import and export of goods within minimum processing time. This Dept. operates under the Ministry of Finance.
